WHAT IS A LESSON LIKE?
Lessons generally last 45 minutes. The student and teacher together look at habitual holding
patterns or tensions that often turn up in our most mundane, everyday movements. We
learn to stop doing these patterns, with patience, practice and a gentle, non-judgmental
approach. Very simple, “pedestrian” movement is the first arena---walking, bending, lifting,
speaking, etc. Later, we will apply the technique to more refined activities or sports. The
teacher works with a light hands-on touch to help the student focus awareness and discover
the many choices available in motion. Some time lying down, again with the teacher’s
verbal and hands-on guidance, is generally incorporated into each lesson.
